ABSTRACT

Objective@#To describe the current status of the prevalence of co-morbid myopia and obesity among 7-18 years students in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2021 and to analyze the moderating effect of lifestyle in this association ,so as to provide scientific basis for the establishment of the mechanism of Co-morbidity,Shared Etiology,and Shared Prevention of common diseases in children and adolescents.@*Methods@#A total of 139 630 primary and secondary school students aged 7-18 years from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region were selected by stratified random cluster sampling method in September,2021. Myopia was determined using distance visual acuity examination and refractive error examination, and obesity was determined according to the BMI classification criteria for overweight, obesity screening of Chinese school age children and adolescents. Used a questionnaire, healthy lifestyles were determined according to the American Heart Association s Healthy Lifestyle Score by totaling the six scores for smoking, alcohol consumption, diet, exercise, screen time, and sleep duration.The χ 2 test was used to compare the association between group differences in the co-morbidity rate of myopia and obesity. The multivariable Logistic regression model was used to explore the influencing factors of the co-morbidity of myopia and obesity, and the stratified analysis was used to analyze the moderating effect of lifestyles on the prevalence of the co-morbidity.@*Results@#The prevalence of myopia and obesity co-morbidity among students aged 7-18 years old in the Inner Mongolia Autonmous Region in 2021 was 13.7%, higher among boys than girls ( 15.5 % vs. 11.8%), higher among those aged 10-12 years old than 7-9,13-15,and 16-18 years old (14.7%,13.7%, 13.3%, 12.0%), higher among other ethnic minorities than Han Chinese and Mongolians (15.3%, 14.0%, 12.5%), higher in urban areas than that in suburban areas(15.3%, 13.0%), and middle economic level tracts were higher than poor and good tracts (14.8%, 12.9 %, 12.6%) ( χ 2=392.37,115.73,62.80,119.02,121.60, P <0.05). Multivariable Logistic regression modeling showed that unhealthy lifestyles ( OR=1.24, 95%CI=1.19-1.29 ) and middle level of lifestyle score ( OR=1.15, 95%CI=1.10-1.19 ) students had higher prevalence of co-morbidity, and the results were statistically significant among both boys and girls, the age groups of 10- 12, 13-15, and 16-18 years old, as well as the Han and Mongolian ethnic groups (all P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#In 2021, the current situation of myopia and obesity co-morbidity and unhealthy lifestyles among primary and secondary school students in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are not optimistic.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To analyze physical fitness and health status and gender differences of middle school students among 5 minorities (Mongolian, Hui, Uyghur, Zhuang and Korean), and to provide the theoretical basis for the strategy formulation.@*Methods@#The present data came from 3 waves of Chinese National Survey on Students Constitution and Health (2010, 2014, and 2019). According to National Standards for Students Physical Health (2014 Revision), excellent, and excellent good physical fitness and health status were defined. Cochran Armitage test was used to examine the trends of physical fitness and health status. Chi square test and Logistic regression were used to analyze the difference of physical fitness and health status by sex and survey year.@*Results@#From 2010 to 2019, the excellent physical fitness and health status rate of Mongolian, Hui, Uyghur, Zhuang and Korean students increased from 1.8%, 0.7%, 0.3%, 0.5% and 1.3% to 4.3%, 2.8%, 1.2%, 1.3% and 3.5%, respectively. The excellent good physical fitness and health status rate of Mongolian, Hui, Uyghur and Zhuang students increased from 12.9%, 8.0%, 7.2 % and 8.4% to 24.7%, 20.1%, 12.6% and 19.8%( Z =6.15,6.71,4.12,3.06,5.26;11.88,13.42,6.70,11.08, P <0.05), respectively. In 2019, students aged 13 to 15 years showed higher proportion of excellent/excellent good physical fitness and health status than that of students aged 16 to 18. Boys were more likely to be in excellent/excellent good physical fitness and health status than girls from 2010 to 2019. The sex difference in excellent/excellent good physical fitness and health status narrowed during 2010 and 2019.@*Conclusion@#Physical fitness and health status of minority students improved while sex difference narrowed during last decade, but there is still a long way to reach the goal proposed by China. Targeted intervention should be proposed to promote physical fitness and health status in accordance with the developmental characteristics, especially for girls and students aged 16 to 18 years.

Objective@#To analyze the hotspots, frontiers, and future research trends related to puberty development among children and adolescents from 2013 to 2022, and to provide a reference for subsequent research related to puberty development.@*Methods@#Data related to puberty development from 2013 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science core collection with the search formula "puberty timing (title) OR puberty development (title) OR pubertal timing (title) OR pubertal development (title) OR puberty timing (abstract) OR puberty development (abstract) OR pubertal timing (abstract) OR pubertal development (abstract)". The CiteSpace was used for visual analysis.@*Results@#A total of 6 684 publications were obtained and an upward trend could be seen in the number of publications in the field of puberty development in the last 10 years. Researchers with a high number of publications were Juul Anders, Brix Nis, and Ernst Andreas, in addition, the United States had the highest number of publications ( 2 125 ) and the highest betweenness centrality (0.23) in this field. In the last decade, research hotspots had focused on the timing of pubertal initiation, biological mechanisms of pubertal development, and sex differences in pubertal development. Research on environmental endocrine disruptors and the mechanisms of pubertal development were at the forefront of research and future research trends.@*Conclusion@#Scholars can refer to the research hotspots and research trends in this field and focus on the issues related to environmental endocrine disruptors and pubertal development mechanisms.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the mechanism that mediates the effect of soybean isoflavones (SI) against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in light of the regulation of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), ferroptosis, inflammatory response and blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability.@*METHODS@#A total of 120 male SD rats were equally randomized into sham-operated group (Sham group), cerebral I/R injury group and SI pretreatment group (SI group). Focal cerebral I/R injury was induced in the latter two groups using a modified monofilament occlusion technique, and the intraoperative changes of real-time cerebral cortex blood flow were monitored using a laser Doppler flowmeter (LDF). The postoperative changes of cerebral pathological morphology and the ultrastructure of the neurons and the BBB were observed with optical and transmission electron microscopy. The neurological deficits of the rats was assessed, and the severities of cerebral infarction, brain edema and BBB disruption were quantified. The contents of Fe2+, GSH, MDA and MPO in the ischemic penumbra were determined with spectrophotometric tests. Serum levels of TNF-α and IL-1βwere analyzed using ELISA, and the expressions of GPX4, MMP-9 and occludin around the lesion were detected with Western blotting and immunohistochemistry.@*RESULTS@#The rCBF was sharply reduced in the rats in I/R group and SI group after successful insertion of the monofilament. Compared with those in Sham group, the rats in I/R group showed significantly increased neurological deficit scores, cerebral infarction volume, brain water content and Evans blue permeability (P < 0.01), decreased Fe2+ level, increased MDA level, decreased GSH content and GPX4 expression (P < 0.01), increased MPO content and serum levels of TNF-α and IL-1β (P < 0.01), increased MMP-9 expression and lowered occludin expression (P < 0.01). All these changes were significantly ameliorated in rats pretreated with IS prior to I/R injury (P < 0.05 or 0.01).@*CONCLUSION@#SI preconditioning reduces cerebral I/R injury in rats possibly by improving rCBF, inhibiting ferroptosis and inflammatory response and protecting the BBB.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To analyze the association between the occurrence of menarche and the exposure to artificial light at night (ALAN) in female Han nationality girls aged 9-18 in China, so as to provide a reference for the research on the disturbance mechanism of ALAN on puberty, as well as provide a scientific evidence for controlling ALAN and making public sanitary policy.@*Methods@#A total of 74 483 Han girls aged 9-18 with complete records of menarche, height, and weight were included in the 2014 Chinese National Surveys on Students Constitution and Health. Pearson correlation was used to explore the correlation between the incidence of menarche and the exposure to artificial light at night in 11-year-old Han girls, and the third quantiles of the area covered by outdoor night lights (0.16, 0.60) and the third quantiles of the average night light intensity [0.97, 5.91 nw/(sr ·cm) 2] were used respectively to divide the study subjects into 3 groups, and the multifactor Logistic regression model was used to analyze the effect of artificial light at night exposure on menarche.@*Results@#In 2014, the median age of menarche of Chinese Han girls was 12.18 years old, and the incidence of menarche in the 11-year-old group was 26.31%. After controlling for body mass index, local population and the logarithmic values of per capita GDP, the incidence of menarche of 11-year-old Han girls was positively correlated with the local outdoor average night light coverage area ratio and the night average light intensity logarithmic adjustment value( r =0.29, 0.30, P <0.05).The higher the local outdoor night light coverage area ratio ( OR =1.28, 1.52) and the average night light intensity ( OR =1.47, 1.58), the higher the incidence of menarche in 11-year-old Han girls( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#There is a positive correlation between artificial light at night exposure and the menarche rate of 11-year-old Han girls. Research on artificial light at night exposure may provide scientific evidence on puberty onset and its effects on population health.

Resumo Fundamento Existem informações conflitantes sobre se a ultrassonografia pulmonar avaliada por linhas B tem valor prognóstico em pacientes com insuficiência cardíaca (ICa). Objetivos Avaliar o valor prognóstico da ultrassonografia pulmonar avaliada por linhas B em pacientes com ICa. Métodos Quatro bases de dados (PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library e Scopus) foram sistematicamente pesquisadas para identificar artigos relevantes. Reunimos a razão de risco (RR) e o intervalo de confiança de 95% (IC) de estudos elegíveis e realizamos análises de heterogeneidade, avaliação de qualidade e viés de publicação. Os dados foram agrupados usando um modelo de efeitos fixos ou de efeito aleatório. Um valor de p <0,05 foi considerado para indicar significância estatística. Resultados Nove estudos envolvendo 1.212 participantes foram incluídos na revisão sistemática. As linhas B > 15 e > 30 na alta hospitalar foram significativamente associadas ao aumento do risco de desfecho combinado de mortalidade por todas as causas ou hospitalização por ICa (RR, 3,37, IC de 95%, 1,52-7,47; p = 0,003; RR, 4,01, IC de 95%, 2,29-7,01; p <0,001, respectivamente). O ponto de corte da linha B > 30 na alta foi significativamente associado ao aumento do risco de hospitalização por ICa (RR, 9,01, IC de 95%, 2,80-28,93; p <0,001). Além disso, o ponto de corte da linha B > 3 aumentou significativamente o risco de desfecho combinado de mortalidade por todas as causas ou hospitalização por ICa em pacientes ambulatoriais com ICa (RR, 3,21, IC de 95%, 2,09-4,93; I2 = 10%; p <0,00001). Conclusão As linhas B podem predizer mortalidade por todas as causas e hospitalizações por ICa em pacientes com ICa. Outros grandes ensaios clínicos randomizados são necessários para explorar se lidar com as linhas B melhoraria o prognóstico nos ambientes clínicos. Abstract Background There is conflicting information about whether lung ultrasound assessed by B-lines has prognostic value in patients with heart failure (HF). Objectives To evaluate the prognostic value of lung ultrasound assessed by B-lines in HF patients. Methods Four databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Scopus) were systematically searched to identify relevant articles. We pooled the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) from eligible studies and carried out heterogeneity, quality assessment, and publication bias analyses. Data were pooled using a fixed-effects or random-effect model. A p value < 0.05 was considered to indicate statistical significance. Results Nine studies involving 1,212 participants were included in the systematic review. B-lines > 15 and > 30 at discharge were significantly associated with increased risk of combined outcomes of all-cause mortality or HF hospitalization (HR, 3.37, 95% CI, 1.52-7.47; p = 0.003; HR, 4.01, 95% CI, 2.29-7.01; p < 0.001, respectively). A B-line > 30 cutoff at discharge was significantly associated with increased risk of HF hospitalization (HR, 9.01, 95% CI, 2.80-28.93; p < 0.001). Moreover, a B-line > 3 cutoff significantly increased the risk for combined outcomes of all-cause mortality or HF hospitalization in HF outpatients (HR, 3.21, 95% CI, 2.09-4.93; I2 = 10%; p < 0.00001). Conclusion B-lines could predict all-cause mortality and HF hospitalizations in patients with HF. Further large randomized controlled trials are needed to explore whether dealing with B-lines would improve the prognosis in clinical settings.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth cause of cancer death in China. We aimed to provide national and subnational estimates and changes of CRC premature mortality burden during 2005-2020.@*METHODS@#Data from multi-source on the basis of the national surveillance mortality system were used to estimate mortality and years of life lost (YLL) of CRC in the Chinese population during 2005-2020. Estimates were generated and compared for 31 provincial-level administrative divisions in China.@*RESULTS@#Estimated CRC deaths increased from 111.41 thousand in 2005 to 178.02 thousand in 2020; age-standardized mortality rate decreased from 10.01 per 100,000 in 2005 to 9.68 per 100,000 in 2020. Substantial reduction in CRC premature mortality burden, as measured by age-standardized YLL rate, was observed with a reduction of 10.20% nationwide. Marked differences were observed in the geographical patterns of provincial units, and they appeared to be obvious in areas with higher economic development. Population aging was the dominant driver which contributed to the increase in CRC deaths, followed by population growth and age-specific mortality change.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Substantial discrepancies were observed in the premature mortality burden of CRC across China. Targeted considerations were needed to promote a healthy lifestyle, expand cost-effective CRC early screening and diagnosis, and improve medical treatment to reduce CRC mortality among high-risk populations and regions with inadequate healthcare resources.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effect of acupuncture pretreatment at specific acupoints on action potential of cerebellar Purkenje cells in rats early after cerebral ischemia.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty male SD rats were randomized into control group, ischemia group, acupuncture pretreatment group and acupuncture pretreatment plus ischemia group. The rats in acupuncture groups received acupuncture pretreatment at Baihui and bilateral Zusanli twice daily for 7 consecutive days, after which brain slices were prepared and perfused at a lowered rate to simulate in vivo ischemic stroke. Microelectrode and whole cell current clamp technique were used for recording the action potentials of cerebellar Purkenje cells to detect changes in spike encoding of the cells.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Compared with those in the control group, the rat brain slices early after simulated ischemia showed significantly shortened inter-spike intervals, increased standard deviation of spike timing and decreased voltage of threshold potentials (P<0.01), suggesting overexcitation of the Purkinje cells. Acupuncture pretreatment at Baihui and bilateral Zusanli obviously suppressed overexcitation of the Purkinje cells in response to ischemia.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Acupuncture pretreatment at Baihui and bilateral Zusanli can improve ischemic stroke by suppressing overexcitation of Purkenje cells in rats.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To analyze the relationship between orbital fat volume and the progression and prognosis of thyroid- associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) and determine the optimal treatment timing for TAO.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The clinical data were collected from 35 patients (70 orbits) with a definite diagnosis of TAO between January, 2016 and December, 2016. The correlation between orbital fat volume and the clinical parameters was evaluated. We also analyzed the correlation of the signal intensity ratio (SIR) of the extraocular muscles with the clinical parameters. The orbital fat volume was compared between patients with TAO and 12 control subjects.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The orbital fat volume was significantly correlated with the duration of TAO (r=0.480, P<0.01), but showed no significant difference between patients with a disease course within 6 months and those with a disease course of 6 to 12 months (P=0.084). The patients with a disease course beyond 12 months had a significantly greater orbital fat volume than those with a disease course of 6 months (P<0.01) or 6 to 12 months (P<0.05). The orbital fat volume was correlated with the degree of proptosis (r=0.622, P<0.01), and an increase of exophthalmos by 1 mm was associated with a total orbital volume increment of 0.88 mL. The clinical activity score was correlated with the SIR of the extraorbital muscles (r=0.536, P<0.01) and levels of anti-thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody (r=0.416,P<0.01). The orbital fat volume was significantly greater in TAO patients than in the healthy individuals (P<0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>In patients with TAO, the peak increase of orbital fat volume occurs one year after the disease onset. Measurement of the orbital fat volume combined with SIR of the extraorbital muscles can serve as an indicator for determining the optimal timing for intervention of TAO and helps in the evaluation of prognosis of the patients.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To establish a new method for rapid and quantitative measurement of orbital fat volume based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We collected MRI data from normalized mold and patients with the diagnosis of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO). The cross-sectional areas of the orbital fat on each MR image slice were measured to calculate the fat volume on each slice and then the total orbital fat volume. We recorded the time for completing the measurement and assessed the precision, reliability, repeatability and interoperator variations of the results.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>This MRI data-based method allowed precise measurement of the orbital fat volumes with an absolute value of the mean percentage difference <1%. This method was fast and the results showed a good repeatability (with CVs <1%), a high reliability (ICC=0.996, 95%CI: 0.985-0.999) and a high interoperator concordance (95%CI of the Bland-Altman: -0.54-0.90).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The novel method we established for orbital fat volume measurement is rapid, accurate, reliable and reproducible with a low learning cost for clinical use.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect of lentinan on cisplatin’s inhibition on cervical cancer Hela cell line. Method Cervical cancer Hela cell line were divided into LEN group (only lentinan treatment), CIS group (only Cisplatin treatment), LEC group (Both Lentinan and Cisplatin treatment) and CON group (no Lentinan and Cisplatin treatment) according to their treatment methods. The differences of cell proliferation, cell cycle, PI and apoptosis were compared. Results The differences of absorbance between LEN group and CON group were not significant d1-d8 after treatment, but significant between CIS and LEC group (P<0.05). The absorbance in LEC group was significantly lower than in CIS group (P<0.05). The differences of PI and apoptosis rate in LEC and CIS group were significant (P<0.05), but not between LEN and group. The PI in LEC group was lower than in CIS group (P<0.05), while apoptosis rate was higher (P<0.05). Conclusion Lentinan could significantly promote Cisplatin’s inhibition effects on cervical cancer Hela cell line.
